My name is Siena Massey and I am the owner of Crescendo Equestrian Training, founded officially in 2022.
There hasn't been a moment of my life where horses weren't in the picture. You could call it cliche to say I rode a horse before I could walk, but it would probably be true. Growing up with horses in the family, I gained quite the affinity for them and I knew very early on that horse riding was my passion.
In 2003, I joined the United States Pony Club and over a period of 10 years, I obtained my "B" certification on my thoroughbred Tipsoo Lake. Although I am not a member today, I still stay very close with my club French Creek Pony Club and volunteer as much as I can. I find the values and constructs of Pony Club have very much shaped the way I ride and teach by emphasizing the importance of the basics and building a strong foundation to be successful in any specialized riding discipline.
During my time in Pony Club, I was recruited by USDF Gold Medalist Debbie Dewitt to be her working student. Under her guidance, I was given the chance to learn on horses trained all the way through the Grand Prix, to horses who were very greenly broke. I give a large portion of credit to Debbie for my success as a rider through all of the opportunities she gave me and all the connections I was able to make. I worked for Debbie from the time I was 15 years old until I was 21 when I branched off to start my career as a professional rider and trainer.
With regards to my Pony Club background, my teaching style very much mirrors the principles taught in the program. I grew up in a three-day eventing environment which I feel has made me a very well-rounded instructor to handle a variety of different horses, riders, and scenarios. I believe riding should be fun but that safety must be a top priority, regardless if you are an absolute beginner or a seasoned professional. All lessons, regardless if the riders are more geared towards hunters, jumpers, or equitation, are founded on dressage principles.
I am currently a silver medalist in the USDF and have competed successfully to the 1.0m jumpers and training level in eventing.
